AutoCAD Civil 3D:: How To Edit Linetypes From A Drawing Aug 27, 2013I want to edit linetypes from a drawing that I got from a surveyor but do not know where Civil 3D stores the linetypes/.lin files of externally created drawings.Similar Messages:.ADVERTISEMENTJun 27, 2012If and how can you copy certain linetypes that are in a drawing and use them in other drawing? Jan 4, 2013I'm having a small problem with linetypes that are not being used nor will they purge from a drawing.

Linetypes are used by everyone who uses AutoCAD. Whether you are drawing mechanical views and showing something as simple as hidden lines or center lines or you are in the civil realm and you draw complex line types like guardrail or fencing, you will need linetypes to convey your linework. The ByLayer linetype displays objects with the linetype assigned to the current layer. An explicitly set linetype, for example DASHDOT, displays objects with that linetype regardless of the current layer. The ByBlock linetype displays objects with the Continuous linetype until the objects are combined into a block definition.

I believe that all started with the binding of an xref but now the xref has been removed along with just about everything else other than simple geometry and some text. The linetypes will not purge. For instance, if I take a standard 'new' dwt file that has no problems and copy anything from an 'infected' drawing to the dwt, the infectious linetypes will now appear in the dwt.

And when I say anything, I mean anything. I can draw a new circle/line/point on the '0' layer and copy that new item into the clean dwt and it will take along with it the unwanted linetypes.I have seen a similar post about linetypes not purging.

And have tried the wblock solution with now luck. I have tried recover along with anything else that I could think of.

Again the drawing doesn't have any xrefs and even newly drawn items, when copied, will become infected by the unwanted line types. Also, the linetypes that are being left behind do have the '$0$' within the name. But also to mention the only ones being left behind are 'powerline' and 'phantom', Oct 20, 2013I am trying to understand how Linetype scale works, and have been researching on LTSCALE, MSLTSCLAE and PSLTSCLAE. I believe I have a fair understanding of each of these settings. Still, I can't figure out how the scaling works while I was trying to create custom line type. To illustrate, I created a new linetype called XCENTER, which is exactly the same line type as CENTER except its name, in a new LIN file.XCENTER,XCenter A,1.25.25.25.25After loading the new linetype into my drawing, I was surprised to see that CENTER and XCenter show up in different scales in the same drawing (see png).My work file is WORK.DWG, I have purged everything except the two polylines, one with the line type of CENTER, the other xCENTER. Not that my global scale is 1:100, LTSCLAE=, MSLTSCALE=1, the object scales are both set to 1.0.I copied the two lines to clipboard and pasted on a brand new drawing TEST.DWG, and the two lines show up in the same scale. What in my original drawing WORK.DWG is causing this problem?

Oct 19, 2012How do I remove unused linetypes from drawing Oct 12, 2011In Civil3d 2012 when the Edit in Storm and Sanitary Analysis command is used to send a Civil3d pipe network and Catchment areas to SSA the program appears to open as expected with the 'Create New Project' dialogue box displayed. When the Create New Project prompt is accepted nothing is displayed in the SSA plan view.But. If I go to the SSA File pulldown menu the.spf project file is available and when it is selected a dialogue box is displayed indicating that the Background file(the dwg) file cannot be found and do we want to search for it 'Yes/No'.If No is selected the pipe network is displayed as expected. If Yes is selected and the dwg file located and selected then the pipe network is displayed as expected but the background file looks like proxy objects.Civil3d2012Win7 64bitNVidia Quadro2000M Mar 12, 2012I created some custom linetypes.

When I copied them over to my drawing, the text in the linetypes came in extemely large. I really need to get this figured out as I am setting up a template for a new customer, and they want all these included.I have attached the dwg for reference. Mar 19, 2012I just updated my company.LIN file and now I need to find the most efficient way to reload all the linetypes into our template and some drawings hopefully without having to delete or purge them out. Jan 8, 2013When i change a linetype in an xref file and then reload the file, The linetype does not change in the file i am referencing the drawing in, leaving me to manually change the linetypes within the drawing. Oct 12, 2012I'm having an issue within the DGNIMPORT command related to a mapping setup that only partially maps.I'm using the DGNIMPORT command in a nearly empty civil3D drawing.

I created a mapping setup to map over the levels to layers, the line styles to linetypes and the line weights. The levels successfully become layers, the lineweights are mapped appropriately. But the Linetypes are NOT.I've attached two screen shots to illustrate the issue. The first shows the window with my mapping setup. The second shows the 'preview' for the setup (Microstation Linestyles 1,6,7 are sent to continuous instead of to the 3 line types I created for the mapping process.) Sep 17, 2012i need to transition from a proposed to a future linetype part of the way down my profile. It's the same surface, just that @ station XX+XX.XX it becomes future.

I need it a diff linetype to faded back, for example. Is there a way to do that? I'm thinking my only option is two create two surfaces, one propsed and one future. My situiation currently is that I already have one complete surface and would like to know if it's possible. Feb 25, 2013I created a custom shape for a custom linetype.

I had no problems making it and the linetypes worked perfectly in the drawing I created it in. However, when I tried to load the linetype into another drawing it said there was a bad definition in the line with the link to the shape file. When I tried to import the shape file into the drawing to look at it, it said that the shapefile has an invalid FIle Code number (707865649). Considering that I created it not ten minutes before I do not understand what the problem is. The real problem is that I have made many linetypes and all the ones with shapes are having the same problem.

Nov 16, 2006i have a drawing i am working and somehow i lost my linetypes that use shape files, anything with text in the linetype work fine. I have tried to reload the shape file, compile it and to no avail. My file directories are pointing in the right direction and everytime i load and compile it goes to correct file and directory. The reason i say i caused it is they were in the drawing working fine, and 1 or 2 commands later gone, I tried to insert the drawing into a new drawing and that did not work.

If i start a new drawing it works fine. Jun 6, 2011Requirement is to display pipes in profile with the same linetype ON TOP as shown in plan view, but bottom line of pipe must be continuous linetype.Same problem as described here, 5 years ago URL.I still do not see a way to control top and bottom pipe linetypes independently - using 2011. Nov 27, 20124 days ago, I installed the 2012 Update 2.1.Prior to that, the linetype as seen in the attached screen short displayed the same for both the alignment style (green) and the polyline (white). After 2.1, they display at different scales. There now seems to be a problem with linetype scaling in the style definitions. The same linetype is used in the alignment style as is assigned to the polyline.

The scale is the same for both (in the alignment style definition and as assigned to the polyline). The only thing that changed is that on Friday morning, I installed the update 2.1 and this is what things looked like in existing model files when I opened them that displayed correctly when I went home on Thursday. Open this file on my computer and it displays according to the attached screen shot.

Open the exact same file on another team member's computer and they display at the same scale. Aug 2, 2012While working in my topo drawing I used the 'reverse' command to flip all my linetypes (water, over head wire, gas) to show correctly. My topo is x referenced into my utility drawing and my x reference lines will not flip. I have reloaded, i have closed and re opened, i have regenerated.

Jul 5, 2013I need to open a bunch of drawings, update a block and then save. I am trying to do it without opening each drawing in AutoCAD. Here is the code snippet I have. I figured before I plug in my block editing code, I would test things out with just adding a line. It seems to be boing through the drawings, and I get no errors, but the line is not being added.Dim mydb AsNewDatabase(False, True)mydb.ReadDwgFile(Newfname,FileOpenMode.OpenForReadAndWriteNoShare, True, ')Using Trans AsTransaction = mydb.TransactionManager.StartTransactionDim btr AsBlockTableRecord = Trans.GetObject(mydb.CurrentSpaceId,OpenMode.ForWrite)code. Nov 12, 2012I can open cad files, i can add informaiton but I cannot delete or edit/open blocks.I can not make any changes to block, i cant even move them.If i type in the command BLOCKEDITOR my response is 0-READ ONLY Oct 11, 2012I got a new computer recently and installed Inventor 11. I found I could not change the drawing dimensions (It chanced in the Edit Box and shown the changes in the dimensions, but after click 'OK', the Edit Box closed and the dimension did not change).I remember there were the similar problems before and I installed KB918118 fixed it.

So I tried to install KB918118. But my computer shown a message saying my computer system is newer and do not need the KB918118 update.

Jun 22, 2012I need to modify some of the dimensions (text only) in a standard template of outline drawing for different cases. I tried to identify the dimensions which need modification by using handle. But after that i have no idea how to change the text in it. But my computer shown a message saying my computer system is newer and do not need the KB918118 update. Mar 6, 2012I am looking for a macro that can edit the default value off the attriburte for each block in the drawing. The new value must be empty. But there is one exception. When the length of the current value is equal to 8 then the macro's has to do nothing and the macro must continue to the next block.

Feb 21, 2008I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2007.A drawing contained several layers, some of them locked, others de-activated during ongoing works. I wanted to edit a block used in the drawings.

I selected the block and opened the block editor. After deleting some elements of the block, I had to explode a couple of elements from the block to delete further details. I selected all the remaining ones. Than I hit the toolbar button MAKE BLOCK, next I closed the block editor. Now all of the model space appears empty except of the ONE block I edited, everything else disappeared. How can I undo the changes and bring the proper drawing back?I tried the procedure on an earlier version - minor changes don't cause any harm to the file. But once I exploded parts of the block during editing, the error appears.

When I lock up the block list, the edited one shows a sign saying 'Dynamic Block' which may be the root of all evil (as the unknown is always the evil). How to recover my drawing? Getting the backup from tape takes ages, deadline is close.

Jul 30, 2009Apparently I can't edit model dimensions from a drawing because i did not select this option when i installed inventor 2010. Feb 11, 2011How would I go about editing drawing properties (Title, Author & custom props) without using AutoCAD. I need to replicate within VB.NET the windows explorer RMB Properties capability.I have heard mention of DWGProps.dll but cannot find it anywhere. May 19, 2012I have a series of drawings created in AutoCad Electricla 2012.Each drawing has a raster image attached with a path from a different computer. When I try to edit the drawing or re-reference the iamge path, the program crashes.I've tried saving the drawings down to an earlier version 2007/2010. Mar 20, 2013How I can edit the attached 3D drawing without drawing it from scratch. I want to increase the outside 4 tabs from.030' to,050'. I want to move the 2 inside lips.040 up.

Drawing attached. Sep 18, 2013I cannot edit any block attributes in my drawing.

When attempting to do so, the command line states: 'The object is on a locked layer'. All of the layers in my drawing are unlocked, on and not frozen. Nov 28, 2012Recently upgraded to Civil 3D 2013 and drawings opened up fine. Now today any drawing that opens shows the plan view as last saved but then after loading takes the drawing and shifts it into a 3d view similar to a crossection. Is there a setting somewhere that has been changed?

I noticed after a windows 7 update was preformed. Dec 26, 2012I would like to know about the permission needed to edit the autocad file. In my folder there are many autocad files. I need to give the edit permission to one particual file to a specific user.First i tried with folder level security.

But i failed.1. I have given full permission for the particular user (Except: Delete,Write Attribute) in the folder level.

But when i tried to open the drawing file, it throws an error. Error: 'File is currently using by the user1. Would you like to open the file read-only?' I have given full permission for the particular user (Except: Delete) in the folder level.

Now i could open the file successfully. But after editing, when i tried to save the document, it throws an error: Error: 'Unable to save to drawing D:TestTest.dwg as it is being accessed by another session. Drawing saved to 'D:Testsav460B.tmp'3. Now i have given full permission for the particular user including Delete permission in the folder level. Now i could save the drawing succesfully after editing. From this, i guess, it needs delete permission in the folder level to edit and save the drawing (I understood this is for creating/deleting tmp/.bak files during saving the document.).

But giving delete permission in the folder level is very risky. Aug 27, 2013I cannot edit a dimension that I add to a drawing, IV simply ignores my request when I select Edit from the shortcut menu. This is not a retrieved dimension. My only workaround has been to edit the dimension properties in the part file to display as I would like on the drawings.I've checked the application options, under Drawing tab, I do have 'Edit dimension when created' checked, yet IV does not display the edit dialogue box upon initial creation of the dimension.

Before signing off to get married I started a series entitled Linetypes the Super Simple Way. So far I’ve covered creating a, and.

To continue that series, today I’m going to take a look at creating linetypes with text contained within them. Chances are, by reading the other posts in this series, you’ve become quite proficient with the Make Linetype (MKLTYPE) command; so I won’t spend too much time on that. Instead, I’d like to focus on some of the gotcha’s of creating linetypes with text, and how to overcome them. Linetypes Text Style While you can technically use any text style of your choosing, I find it best to create a dedicated linetype for text styles.

I typically give this text style a super-cryptic name like LINETYPES. When creating this test style it’s important to define it with a Height of ‘0’. Here’s how I typically define my LINETYPES text style. Creating a text stye for linetypes. Although your linetype definition will respect test style settings such as Font Name and Font Style, it will ignore “Effects” like Oblique Angle. That means if you distinguish between existing and proposed with an “obliqued” text style, you’ll need to reconsider your text standard and/or how you use text within linetypes.

This limitation is one of many reasons I’ve become a fan of True Type fonts inside AutoCAD. Using a True Type font like Arial you can create a text style with an Italic Font Style. Creating an italic linetype text style Defining the Linetype With my LINETYPES text style in place, I’ll simply draw the linetype at a scale of 1:1. That’s to say if I want the text within the linetype to scale to 0.1”, I’ll draw the linetype with my text 0.1” tall. Using the Make Linetype (MKLTYPE) command, I’ll follow the prompts to create a new linetype definition. Using the MKLTYPE command Upright Text in Linetypes Using the Make Linetype (MKLTYPE) command in AutoCAD 2011 will create your linetype definition using the new Upright linetype property. The text contained within your linetypes will remain plan readable (ie not upside down) when the Upright property is used.

Any linetypes you may have created prior to AutoCAD 2011 will need to be updated to utilize this property. To do this, open your linetype file (.lin) in your favorite text editor (Notepad). With the linetype definition open, replace the R=0.0 parameter (if you have one), and replace it with U=0.0.

Here’s an example of what this might look like: Typical Linetype Definition Inch Marks in Linetypes. If you use imperial units, you’ll probably need to display the inch mark (aka quotation mark) in your linetypes. If you look to the linetype definition above, you’ll notice that the text string is ended with a quotation mark. That’s to say if you entered 6” W AutoCAD would ignore the W (Water) portion of the string. My workaround for this is to use two single quotes inside your text string.

Inside your drawing it will look nearly identical to a real quotation mark. Using these tips, you should end up with a linetype that looks something like the illustration below. Final Linetype Linetypes the Super Simple Way Series.
