I find it in conditions that supports how it has been cared for(probably by one owner over the years) It is in superb playing condition and it comes with a Super vintage alto mouthpiece. The writing on the mouthpiece is so faint from age and use that even my 20/20 can't make it out.

The only writing on it that is visible still is'France' The mouthpiece has a beutifully rounded chamber sounding very much like the older Meyers Bros. Both the ligature and the cap are also marked'France' It also comes with a neck strap not pictured. This is a No minimum and no reserve auction!

These were made in Indiana most likely in the late 1930’s to early 1940’s by Buescher. These are later relatives of the Buescher True Tones.

The bell is engraved with“The Elkhart” Elkhart-Ind. Inside of a very ornate heart. The lacquer is in really good condition(maybe 90% if I had to guess) and all keys work fine as do the springs. The pads and resonators appear good and the instrument plays from low Bb to high F but I would suggest some fine tuning as there could be some leaking pads on any vintage horn. There is a small dent in the bottom of the bell which I tried to show in the pictures. The case is in very good condition inside and out with only a couple of small tears. I always meant to get this beauty restored and playing, but I’m lucky if I have enough time to practice on clarinet these days. My loss is your gain.

The instrument is mostly intact, but has a few rough solder points. There is one just before the neck joint, where the lyre attachment has been, well, crudely reattached. This one is more cosmetic, and it is not through to the bore. The other is just before the bow, on the Eb tone hole.

There is a section that appears to have been torn from the horn at one point and crudely soldered back together. A good tech can repair this, but obviously it is an expensive job. Most of the springs are good, but there are a few that are sluggish or just spent. The neck spring is definitely spent.

Of her pearls. There are not too many dents on her, but there are a few scrapes.

She has lovely scroll work, and her serial no. Is 90, 977 which dates her back to 1921, so a very early horn.

A few years ago, taken this horn into a very upscale instrument repair shop and was quoted $350 to repair EVERYTHING, including smoothing out the bad solder spots and making her pretty again. Restored, the horn was valued at $750+, though I am not up to date with prices now. This horn will be WELL worth the investment, however, it’s just something I do not have the time for, or the money laying around to take care of. I am by no means an expert, just a clarinetist of 15 years, but I’ll do my best to answer any questions you have! Beat up Vito case included.

I tied some strings on it. Vintage Buescher Aristocrat Alto Sax Serial#G67188 A Rare Treasure!

Buescher bought out the Elkhart Musical Instruments Company, but continued to use the popular Elkhart name, with'Built by Buescher' added to these products, which they produced from the late 1920s into the 1940s. Among their instruments were a line of intermediate level saxophones, for the advanced student or the economically challenged professional.

These were very decent horns, with good sound and intonation, just with a little thinner metal and no frills. They have the general feel of Buescher Aristocrats of the period. They feature an engraving on the bell of an elk in a heart, with a cityscape in the background. The lettering reads: Elkhart, Built by Buescher, Elkhart, Ind. No record of serial numbers were maintained as they relate to the date of manufacture.

The serial number of this alto sax is 59213. The 20A probably indicates that it's an alto saxophone from the 1930s. This particular alto is in need of some help. But could be a fine student or back-up horn with moderate restoration. Guard on the low C key is bent. Which prevents the operation of the key. The guard needs to be removed, straightened and reattached.

The top portion of the body octave key needs to be straightened to engage the octave ring on the neck. Neck socket is missing its tightening screw. Pearl needed for the body octave key. Felts needed for the top of the low C and the low B keys. Very top of the bell lip is bent slightly backwards.

This is cosmetic. But could be reshaped.

Neck needs new cork. None of the above is egregious damage and entails probably 2-3 hours of work by competent sax technician. The pads are old but still seal. Though this horn would surely benefit by new pads at some future date. Tone holes are straight, not rolled. Case appears to be original.

It's pretty beat up, but still usable. There is a decent and playable vintage alto sax in here. With a little time and effort! Up FOR BID is a USED in POOR Condition and being Sold for Restoration. Dating between 1920-1921. This is a low pitch, true tone saxophone. Missing the clasp for mouthpiece that holds the reeds in place(I'd say that's the only flaw with this sax and that's very minor) The cork appears to be in excellent condition.

The pads appear to be in excellent condition as well. This was used by a professional player out of the Flint Michigan area and was taken well care of! There is a lot of wear to the finish as well as heavy green buildup in areas. There are some small dents, scratches, dings, etc. I noticed the octave key is bent a little bit.

If you are looking at this you might already know what these are all about! There is plenty of information online about these innovative and unusual instruments.

These were marketed to schools and students as an economical and easier alternative to a full sax. Reduced keywork made for a lightweight instrument that plays a full chromatic 2 octave range from C-c# Sounds like any other student sax. In fact these sound better than a lot of the student horns my kids are bringing to school these days. Ideal for a very young person who wants to play sax, an older person who can't hold a full sax anymore, or anyone who wants to try a sax but is daunted by all the keys. This horn is as easy to play notes as a recorder. You get 2 horns, one plays like a champ, the other not as well but still workable.

Includes a very nice case with side and top. Handles, very clean and latches work. Check my feedback and bid with confidence.
